Objective
SINCE 1985, LARDET BABCOCK IN ASSOCIATION WITH CERCHAR HAS BEEN BUILDING AND PERFECTING A PROTOTYPE 2.5 MWTH FLUIDIZED BED BOILER AS PART OF A PROGRAMME FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOW POWER BOILERS (700 TO 6000 KW). THE MAIN AIMS OF THE PRESENT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ARE :
- TO DEFINE THE COMPLETE RANGE PROJECTED BY USING THE INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE BEC UNIT, WHICH CONCERNS COAL WITH HIGH ASH CONTENT (AUMANCE FINES);
- TO DETERMINE THE EQUIPMENT MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED SO AS TO COMPLY WITH THE POLLUTANT WASTE LEVELS ENVISAGED IN THE NEW DRAFT EUROPEAN STANDARDS.
SMILL AND MEDIUM-SIZED INDUSTRIAL ENTREERPRISES, THE HOUSING SECTOR AND SERVICE INDUSTRIES THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY CAN MAKE USE OF SECONDARY COAL PRODUCTS SUCH AS HIGH ASH FINES, WHICH ARE SOMETIMES VERY HIGH IN SULPHUR, TO MEET THEIR ENERGY REQUIREMENTS (HOT WATER, LOW PRESSURE STEAM) ECONOMICALLY, PROVIDED SMALL GENERATORS CAPABLE OF PROCESSING THIS TYPE OF SOLID FUEL ARE AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUCH EQUIPMENT IS ALSO ESSENTIAL IN CERTAIN MINING AREAS IN FRANCE FACING THE ECONOMIC NEED TO USE LARGE QUANTITIES OF FINES AND BY-PRODUCTS, WHICH ARE SOMETIMES EXTREMELY HIGH IN SULPHUR, IN PARTICULAR THOSE FROM THE AUMANCE, CEVENNES AND PROVENCE MINES.
POTENTIAL USERS NEED A TECHNICALLY ADVANCED PRODUCT AT AN ATTRACTIVE PURCHASE PRICE AND WITH LOW RUNNING COSTS.
