HOT DRY ROCK GEOTHERMAL PROGRAMME: CHEMICAL ASPECTS, INCLUDING MULTIELEMENT TRACE ANALYSIS OF AQUEOUS FLUIDS AND SURFACE ANALYSIS OF MINERALS AFTER ALTERATION

Objective

TO STRUDY THE REACTIONS BETWEEN WATER AND ROCK IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE REACTIONS THAT HAPPEN IN A HDR SYSTEM.

WITH IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE HDR PROJECTS IN THE CARNMENELLIS GRANITE (CORNWALL, U.K.) A NUMBER OF EXPERIMENTS AND ANALYSES ARE NECESSARY FOR THE UNDERSTANDING AND THE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AND EXPLOITATION OF SUCH ENERGY SOURCES. BECAUSE OF THE EXPERIENCE IN MULTI-ELEMENTAL TRACE ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES PRESENT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF ANTWERP, THIS GROUP WILL FOCUS ITS RESEARCH ON THE LOCATION, ANALYSIS AND BEHAVIOUR OF TRACE ELEMENTS DURING WATER-ROCK INTERACTIONS.
ADVANCEMENT:
ELECTRON ANALYSIS (E.P.M.A.) HAS BEEN PERFORMED ON BIOTITE AND MUSCOVITE MINERALS. SEVERAL INCLUSIONS HAVE BEEN FOUND AND IT IS CLEAR THAT THE MINERALS ARE VERY INHOMOGENEOUS. SECONDARY ION MASS SPECTROSCOPY (S.I.M.S.) IS MORE SENSITIVE AND BIOTITE HAS BEEN STUDIED USING THAT METHOD TO FIND THE LOCATIONS OF TRACE ELEMENTS SUCH AS LI, F, CL, BR, RB, I, CS IN SAMPLES FROM CARNMENELLIS GRANITE.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
