Objectif
1. TO IMPROVE KNOWLEDGE OF DEEP IN-SITU ROCK STRESSES AND OTHER DATA IN THE UNITED KINGDOM RELEVANT TO THE ASSESSMENT OF GEOTHERMAL HDR POTENTIAL.
2. TO EVALUATE WHETHER INFORMATION RELEVANT TO NATURAL FRACTURES CAN BE OBTAINED FROM SEISMIC DATA.
THE CONTRACTOR WILL CARRY OUT AND INTERPRET HYDROFRACTURE STRESS MEASUREMENTS IN BOREHOLES DRILLED BY OTHERS FOR MINING OR SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES. EXPERIMENTS ARE ENVISAGED AT NO MORE THAN ONE SITE EACH YEAR, DEPENDING ON THE AVAILABILITY OF COMMERCIAL BOREHOLES AT APPROPRIATE DEPTHS AND IN APPROPRIATE STRATA. SUCH EXPERIMENTS WILL ALSO INCLUDE THE COLLECTION OF OTHER DATA RELEVANT TO NATURAL OR STIMULATED FRACTURING IN THE FORMATIONS INVESTIGATED.
THE CONTRACT ALSO PROVIDES FOR A MEMBER OF STAFF TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SECOND EUROPEAN GEOTHERMAL-GEOPHYSICAL TEST SITE PROJECT ON MILOS, WHERE HE WILL APPLY AN ANALYSIS OF SHEAR WAVE SPLITTING AND SEISMIC ANISOTROPY TO SEISMIC DATA OBTAINED BY THE UNIVERSITIES OF AACHEN AND PARIS (SEE CONTRACT NOS. G0015D AND G0067F). THIS TECHNIQUE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CHARACTERISE FRACTURES IN THE FORMATIONS UNDER EXAMINATION, AND WILL BE TESTED IN THIS PROJECT.
ADVANCEMENT:
