UPGRADING THE SIMULATION CAPABILITIES OF EFOM 12C.

Objective

THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE SIMUL MODEL WILL PROVIDE THE CAPABILITY FOR QUICKLY EXPLORING, IN A SIMULATION MODE, VARIATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE SOLUTION FOUND WITH EFOM. USING THIS CAPABILITY FOR EXPLOITING THE SOLUTION OF EFOM WILL ALLOW A QUICK TESTING OF CHANGES IN THE PARAMETERS, E.G. SHIFTS IN THE PRIMARY ENERGY REQUIREMENTS IN RESPONSE TO CHANGES IN FINAL OR USEFUL DEMAND FOR A GIVEN PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION STRUCTURE (WITHOUT GOING AGAIN THROUGH THE OPTIMISATION PROCEDURE).

THE MODEL SIMUL MAKES PART OF THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMES AROUND THE COMMISSION'S ENERGY SUPPLY MODEL EFOM 12C. SIMUL IN ITS ACTUAL VERSION PROVIDES THE POSSIBILITY FOR QUICKLY PERFORMING CONSISTENCY CHECKS, DESCRIPTIVE STUDIES, AND POST-OPTIMISATION STUDIES. ALTHOUGH SO FAR, THE FIRST TWO OBJECTIVES HAVE BEEN PREDOMINANT BECAUSE SIMUL ONLY ALLOWS POST-OPTIMISATION ANALYSIS ON SNAPSHOTS (STATIC OPTIMISATION).
THE POTENTIAL USERS NEED MORE FLEXIBILITY FOR SENSITIVITY STUDIES AROUND THE OPTIMAL SOLUTIONS CALCULATED BY DYNAMIC OPTIMISATIONS MAINLY IN CONNECTION WITH LONG TERM ENERGY PLANNING. TO PERFORM SUCH STUDIES EFFICIENTLY AN UPGRADE OF SIMUL IS ENVISAGED.
