HERMES UK MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE

Objective

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE HERMES MULTISECTORIAL MODEL OF THE ECONOMIES OF THE COMMUNITY, PROVIDING INSIGHT INTO THE ECONOMIC RELATIONSHIPS OF THE UK AND, IN PARTICULAR, FOCUSSING ON THEIR LINKS WITH THE OTHER COMMUNITY ECONOMIES. DEVELOPMENT OF THE TWO FORECASTS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A MORE COMPLETE ANALYSIS OF THE PROSPECTS FOR THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIES AND HELP TO IDENTIFY THE KEY FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH, INFLATION, UNEMPLOYMENT, THE BALANCE OF TRADE WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD, AND OTHER INDICATORS OF MACROECONOMIC PERFORMANCE. THE SECTORAL ANALYSIS WILL SHOW THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ECONOMY AS A WHOLE FOR KEY INDUSTRIAL SECTOR.

TO PROVIDE THE CENTRAL GROUP WITH TWO FORECASTS OVER THE PERIOD 1987-1992 IN MAGNETIC FORM, TOGETHER WITH THE VERSION OF THE MODEL USED TO PRODUCE THE FORECASTS.

TO ASSIST THE COMMISSION IN THE LINKAGE OF THE UK MODEL TO THE OTHER HERMES MODELS BY PROVISION OF STAFF AND EXPERTISE BOTH IN THE UK AND AS NECESSARY IN BRUSSELS.
