Objective
THE FIRST PART OF THE RESEARCH CONSISTS ON :
- ELABORATION OF THE ENERGY MODELS DATA BASE FOR PORTUGAL NAMELY THE STEM, MIDAS AND MEDEE EUR MODELS,
- TASKS AND SIMULATIONS OF THE MEDEE-EUR MODEL,
- PARTICIPATION TO THE USE OF THE MIDAS MODEL BY THE COMMISSION.
THE SECOND PART OF THE RESEARCH DEALS WITH THE "ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT" PROBLEMS. AFTER THE EXTENSION OF THE ENERGY SUPPLY MODEL EFOM 12C IN A GENERAL FORM, THE PRESENT CONTRACT FOCUSES ON THE APPLICATION OF THE MODEL FOR AN INVESTIGATION ON MULTINATIONAL LEVEL. TO PERFORM SUCH A STUDY A COLLABORATION HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BETWEEN INSTITUTIONS IN 11 EC COUNTRIES.
THE UPDATING OF THE DATA BASE FOR THE POTUGUESE ENERGY SYSTEM AND THE MODEL RUNS FOR PORTUGAL WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY CEEETA ACCORDING TO GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS IN ORDER TO GET AN EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE OF THE ENERGY-ENVIRONMENT PROBLEM.
The residential module of MEDEE EUR has been programmed in FORTRAN and the residential and industrial modules run within the LOTUS 123 environment. The result is very useful in providing tools for energy planning work both at the national and at the regional levels.
PART ONE OF THE CONTRACT.
THE CONTRACT WILL RESULT IN MODELS OPERATIONAL FOR PORTUGAL. THESE MODELS WILL PRODUCE THE ENERGY DEMAND FORECAST NECESSARY FOR THE DEFINITION OF COMMISSION ENERGY POLICIES. COMPLETE ENERGY DATA BASE IS DIFFICULT TO EXTRACT IN THIS NEW MEMBER COUNTRY; IT WILL THUS PROVIDE A FUNDAMENTAL AND ORIGINAL INFORMATION.
PART TWO OF THE CONTRACT.
AS A RESULT OF THE RAPID INCREASE IN FOREST DAMAGES IN MID-EUROPE, THE NEED FOR THE REDUCTION OF AIR POLLUTIONS FROM ENERGY CONVERSION AND ENERGY-END-USE TECHNOLOGIES BECAME AN IMPORTANT POLITICAL OBJECTIVE. AIR POLLUTIONS ARE DITRIBUTED OVER LARGE DISTANCES PARTLY OVER SEVERAL THOUSAND KM CROSSING SEVERAL BORDERS. ALL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ARE BURDENED BY THE TRANSPORT OF AIR POLLUTIONS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES AND MEASURES TO REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGES CAN ONLY BE EFFECTIVE IN AN INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT.
DUE THE COMPLEXITY OF THE ENERGY SYSTEM, ITS NUMEROUS INTERRELATIONS AND THE LARGE NUMBER OF TECHNOLOGIES AND MEASUREMENTS, WHICH IN PRINCIPLE ARE AVAILABLE TO REDUCE THE AIR POLLUTION EMISSION, THIS ANALYSIS WILL BE REALIZED WITH AN ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL MODEL. THE CASE STUDY WILL HELP TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS :
- THE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF AIR POLLUTION EMISSIONS.
- IMPACT OF FURTHER IMPROVEMENT OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND OF A POSSIBLE INCREASE OF THE MARKET SHARE FOR SOLID FUELS.
- EFFECT OF EMISSION REDUCTION MEASURES AND POLICIES.
- COST-OPTIMAL EMISSION REDUCTION STRATEGIES.
- WASTE MANAGEMENT FOR THE FOLLOW-UP PRODUCTS.
- CONTRIBUTION OD INTERREGIONAL MEASURES.
