Objective
THE AIM IS TO DEVELOP SPIN, WEAVE AND TEST A NEW POLYMER MATERIAL FOR USE IN THE SEPARATORS OF WATER ELECTROLYSIS. THE MATERIAL WOULD HAVE LOW ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE AND GOOD MECHANICAL-CHEMICAL DURABILITY.
NEW SPINNABLE AROMATIC POLYMERS WILL BE SYNTHESISED TO MAKE TISSUES FOR USE AS SEPARATORS IN WATER ELECTROLYSIS; SUCH SEPARATORS WILL POTENTIALLY YIELD A HIGH PERFORMANCE. THE NEW POLYMERS WILL BE SPUN AND TISSED AND TESTING WILL BE DONE IN ALKALINE WATER ELECTROLYSIS CELLS. CORRECT WORKING CONDITIONS WILL BE INVESTIGATED FOR ALL STEPS OF THE FABRICATION SEQUENCE WITH THE AIM OF OPTIMIZING THE FINAL PERFORMANCES OF TISSUES AS DIAPHRAGMS IN ADVANCED ALKALINE WATER ELECTROLYSIS AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 120 AND 140 CELSIUS DEGREES.
SEPARATORS MADE OF THIS MATERIAL IN WOVEN FORM POTENTIALLY HAVE GOOD MECHANICAL AND CHEMICAL RESISTANCE TOGETHER WITH LOW ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE IN THE ELCTROLYTE. AS A RESULT ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION WOULD BE REDUCED LEADING TO MORE ECONOMIC OPERATION OF WATER ELCTROLYSIS. THE SEPARATORS WOULD ALSO BE ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFER THAN ASBESTOS SEPARATORS AND WOULD WITHSTAND HIGHER TEMPERATURES.
STATE OF ADVANCEMENT:
THREE PROGRESS REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. GOOD PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE.
