Objective
THE AIM OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS TO PERFORM PHASE EQUILIBRIUM MEASUREMENTS, DENSITY AND VISCOSITY DETERMINATIONS OF SYNTHETIC MIXTURES AND LIQUIDS GENERATED IN INDUSTRIAL COAL LIQUEFACTION PROCESSES.
THE GENERATED DATA OF PHYSICAL AND THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES WILL FACILITATE A SATISFACTORY MODELLING OF COAL LIQUEFACTION PROCESSES AND FOR THE DETAILED DESIGN OF INDUSTRIAL PLANTS.
Equipment has been developed for measuring vapour liquid equilibrium properties between hydrogen and oil produced by the liquefaction of coal. The temperature range covered by the apparatus is up to 673 K and the pressure range up to 25 MPa. In addition, this new cell has been built with a substance which is not fragilised by hydrogen. The measuring apparatus is based on the static technique with phase sampling. An efficient stirring system allows rapid achievement of equilibrium. The sampling system makes it possible to introduce samples directly into the chromatograph circuit with the samples taken from inside the cell using capillaries closed by microvalves. The analysis is carried out by gas phase chromatography. The amounts of hydrogen present are measured by a catharometer and the oil by flame ionisation detector.
Preliminary tests, in particular the analysis of the oil, have been carried out.
PHYSICAL AND THERMODYNAMIC DATA NECESSARY FOR A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF COAL LIQUEFACTION PROCESSES AND THE RELATED REACTIONS WILL BE MEASURED AT VARIOUS STAGES OF THE PROCESS FROM THE SLURRY PREPARATION STAGE TO THE FINAL DISTILLATION.
IN THE SLURRY PREPARATION AND PREHEATING STAGE A NEW VISCOSIMETER BUILT IN THE LABORATORY WILL BE USED TO INVESTIGATE THE INFLUENCE OF COAL, SOLVENT, PREOXIDATION OF COAL, RHEOLOGY OF THE SLURRY BETWEEN 10 AND 50.000 CP, UP TO 500 CELSIUS DEGREES, 300 BAR AND IN THE PRESENCE OF H2 AND H2S ON VISCOSITY.
SEVERAL EQUILIBRIUM CELLS WITH ADVANCED METHODS FOR SAMPLING ARE AVAILABLE TO PERFORM MEASUREMENT OF PHASE EQUILIBRIA ON MODEL LIQUIDS AND ON INDUSTRIAL LIQUID SAMPLES.
NEW MODELS DESCRIBING HIGH PRESSURE PHASE EQUILIBRIA EXTENDED TO POLAR SUBSTANCES AND ELECTROLYTES WILL BE USED FOR THE CALCULATIONS.
