Objective
THE AIM OF THE PRESENT PROJECT IS TO STUDY WIND TURBINE WAKE INTERFERENCE IN AN EXISTING WIND FARM AND UTILIZE SOME OF THE RESULTS FOR VALIDATION OF EXISTING THEORETICAL MODELS FOR PREDICTION OF POWER PERFORMANCE. THE PROGRAMME COMPRISES MEASUREMENTS OF MEAN WIND SPEEDS AND TURBULENCE UPSTREAM AND INSIDE THE FARM AS WELL AS POWER PERFORMANCE OF INDIVIDUAL TURBINES AS WELL AS OF THE WHOLE FARM.
The objectives of the research were to acquire experimental evidence on the following topics:
the wind field within a large wind farm;
wake effects on the power performance of individual turbines in a large wind farm;
wake effects on the total power output of a large wind farm.
The full scale data acquired during the measurement campaign was to be used for validation of available prediction schemes for:
power performance and wind fields in wind farms, the kinematic model FARMS;
wake properties of single wind turbines, the eddy viscosity model EVMOND.
THE PROGRAMME COMPRISES MEASUREMENTS OF MEAN WIND SPEEDS AND TURBULENCE UPSTREAM AND INSIDE THE FARM, AS WELL AS POWER PERFORMANCE AND POWER VARIABILITY OF INDIVIDUAL TURBINES AND OF THE WHOLE FARM.
THE MEASUREMENTS ARE CARRIED OUT BY THE DANISH MARITIME INSTITUTE (DMI) AT TAENDPIPE WIND FARM, WHICH IS SITUATED IN THE WESTERN PART OF JUTLAND, DENMARK. PREDICTIONS BY MEANS OF AN EXTENTED VERSION THE SEMI-EMPIRICAL MILLY MODEL, REF./2/, KNOWN AS FARMS, ARE CARRIED OUT ON A SUBCONTRACT BASIS BY MT-TNO, THE NETHERLANDS.
