Objetivo
THE EXISTING WIND TURBINE TEST STATIONS IN EUROPE AND THE CEC WIND ENERGY DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS ARE LOCATED AT VERY DIFFERENT SITES CONCERNING THEIR BEHAVIOUR. SUCCESSFUL WIND TURBINE TESTS AT ONE TEST STATION CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THERE OCCUR NO DIFFICULTIES AT OTHER SITES ESPECIALLY IN CONTROL AND FATIGUE PROPERTIES OF THE TURBINES.
THEREFORE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE WIND BEHAVIOUR IS REQUIRED. ESPECIALLY THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE TYPICAL STRUCTURES PUT THE ENGINEER IN A BETTER POSITION WHEN DESIGNING WECS OR ESTABLISHING EUROPEAN STANDARDS FOR SAFETY RULES.
THE KNOWLEDGE OF TYPICAL EXTREME WIND GUST TIME STRUCTURES ENABLES THE CONSOLIDATED DESIGN OF A WEC AND ALLOWS TO DETERMINE LOAD CASES AND SAFETY STANDARDS. THIS TIME HISTORY INFORMATION WILL BE DERIVED FROM SPECIAL MEASUREMENTS, DONE AT 10 SITES IN EUROPE WITH IDENTICAL DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEMS.

THE BASIC 10 HZ SIGNAL IS REDUCED ON-LINE TO A ONE SECOND AVERAGE VALUE OF WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION. THIS LEADS TO A STORAGE CAPACITY OF 240 TIME SERIES OF 10 MINUTES LENGTH FOR THE 3.5' FLOPPY DISKS. FOR EACH BIN OF 1 M/S WIDTH FROM 0 TO 20 M/S HUNDRED 10-MIN LONG DATA SETS WILL BE COLLECTED AND EVALUATED. IN PARALLEL TO THE 10-MIN TIME SERIES THE MAXIMUM AND THE MINIMUM WIND SPEED AS WELL AS THE 10-MIN AVERAGES ARE RECORDED CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE WHOLE MEASUREMENT PERIOD THUS GIVING INFORMATION OF THE GENERAL WIND BEHAVIOUR OF EACH SITE AT 20 M HEIGHT ABOVE GROUND LEVEL DURING THE MEASUREMENT CAMPAIGN.
