Development of a newly designed capillary fuel cell

Objective

2S plans to develop a compact, low cost, highly efficient capillary fuel cell (CaFuCel) for the conversion of energy (examples: from raw materials such as methanol plus air or oxygen to electricity) through an electrochemical (no combustion) process. The process will be silent and will produce only heat, carbon dioxide and pure water vapour as their by-products. The CaFuCels will : have no moving parts, have a long life expectancy, provide excellent reliability, create the power density required of large electrical generators and automobile engines and will meet consumer demands for clean and quiet power. CaFuCels will include the positive qualities of PEM stacks and eliminate the negative qualities. The CaFuCels which have the same volume as a PEM will generate a ten-fold (1,000%) increase the power density available from the PEM stack. Simple construction will permit the manufacture of low volume, low-cost units and make possible a rapid penetration into key commercial markets.
