Objective
The project aims to form, with minimal solvent use, an SLI battery capable of meeting both high power starting demands and low power system loads. Among the stated objectives is a demonstration 42 V, 30-50 kWh modules. An extrusion process will be used to fabricate cell components without the need for casting solvent employed in current lithium cell manufacture. The present instability problems of state-of-the-art Li-ion cells discharging at high power will be overcome by the use of patented additives. Key aspects include the specification of electrode components with sufficiently high electronic and ionic conductivities. Battery management is an integral part of this system, which will improve efficient recharging and safe discharging. Modules will additionally be tested on their feasibility for other applications. A co-ordination and management team, and a steering group will accelerate the implementation and execution of critical aspects of this project. Within this consortium we will extend the various objectives of the EU such as stimulating participation of SMEs and the development of critical technologies, employment, and suppression of effluent.
