New high efficiency electric machines solutions for mild hybrid applications ('ELMAS')

Objective

This proposal is related to the Thematic Cluster on Hybrid Electric Vehicles optimised for CO2 emission and costs. In order to obtain a real HEVs diffusion and through it an impact on the global problems of energy saving, CO2 and other noxious gaseous emissions reduction, it's necessary to find solutions able to guarantee these results with acceptable market costs. Mild Hybrids can be the right answer to these antithetic objectives. The project is referable to the study and introduction of new technologies for mild hybrid drive trains both with high efficiency and low global cost. The project is aimed to investigate and verify in practice the opportunity to use reluctance electric machines (switched or synchronous) both from the technical and economical feasibility point of view. To do it, it will be particularly stressed the system industrialisation problems.
