High-pressure dynamic viscosity and density behaviour of mixtures representative of some dead altered reservoir oils. measurement and modelling.

Objetivo

The viscosity is an important property for the design of transport equipment and for the simulation of production profiles from petroleum reservoirs. For this reason experimental measurements and theoretical studies are necessary. For normal oils only few viscosity measurements have been reported in the open literature but for altered oils there is practically no data at all. In this work, we will study some synthetic mixtures representative of such systems. Firstly, we will study the viscosity of two simple binary mixtures containing light alkanet and a branched alkanet or polycylic naphthenic, from 0.1 to 100MPa, and from 20°C to 90° C.Secondly we will consider multicomponent systems in order to see the influence of the additive. We will analyse ternary, quaternary and quinarymixtures adding an aromatic and another naphtenic one. It is obvious that when the number of compounds increases the mixture is more representative of real reservoir fluids. The data will be used in order to do a comparative study of the performances of several representative models, such as, the LBC model widely used in petroleum engineering, the self-reference model, and the very recent f-theory and free volume models. This study will be very useful because the oil industry needs accurate and reliable viscosity models applicable to wide ranges of temperature, pressure and composition in order to predict the viscosity of the reservoirs for the accurate simulation of the production profile from an oil reservoir. This project will give me the possibility to know about a new subject: experimental studies, modelling and simulation of petroleum fluids. This experience would very useful for me because from a professional point of view it opens future perspectives in research and development in a university Orin industry. Further this project will give me the opportunity to gain experience in computational modelling. This project is also of great importance for the Laboratories des Fluides Complexes. This Laboratory has been working for several years on properties of systems related to petroleum fluids and has developed several theoretical and semi-empirical models. In addition, the collaboration between the laboratory and the applicant, will also imply the exchange and sharing of knowledge related to the high-pressure experimental and theoretical domains. In particular I have a strong experience in handling equations of states(very important for modelling density).
