Modelling sustainable regional development in the European informat ion society

Exploitable results

The project further elaborates a general model, both providing a theoretical framework and an application at case studies, for integrated sustainable regional development in the information society taking into account the structural change and the environmental situation in Europe. We create 25 key issues that determine the evolutionary future of a region and collected rules of how to use the method of so-called cross catalytical networks (CCN) for structuring regional development to improve the likelihood of success. Partners in Spain, Switzerland, Great Britain, Austria, Israel and Germany became able to support their regions in evolving towards a favourable future (in the information society). Finally the work group summarizes the results and gives some policy implications concerning issues highly relevant to the European Union environment and regional development policies.
