Objective
The ISOLE Project is aimed at supporting the local administrations of small/medium size Mediterranean islands in the decision making associated with their daily coastal management tasks.
In particular the Project is focused on the quantitative assessment of the mutual impacts between human pressure led by seasonal tourism and the status and evolution of marine and coastal land resources.
ISOLE information shall be generated by a set of applications, based on satellite remote sensed data and integrating locally collected information, harmonised within a pre-operational environment that will enable quality and benefits evaluation by target end-users within two pilot cases, the island of Elba (IT) and Mykonos (GR).
The local administrations of the two islands actively participate within the Project as Partners.
The ISOLE Project has a scheduled duration of 2 years, including an operational period of 3 months. The Project includes the specification, design, implementation and transit to operations of the following main elements:
1 ) A set of satellite based applications in the following areas:
- Marine Pollution Monitoring;
- Macroscopic Events Detection;
- Coastal Land Resources Monitoring;
2) Local Circulation Models, based on in-situ measurements complemented with satellite data for the:
- Short Term Propagation of macroscopic pollutant events distribution; - Long Term Propagation of human induced marine pollution monitoringparameters distribution.
3) A Tourism Analysis and Modelling Application, based on local data and statistics, for the organization and analysis of tourism data and information.
4) A set of Adaptive Tourism Impact Assessment Correlation Models, based on ISOLE application outcomes and tourism data, for the establishment of functional relationships between environment quality parameters evolution and human pressure on the coastline.
Those elements shall be complemented with the required data exchange and user presentation services. All the outcomes of ISOLE elements shall be integrated within a GIS environment.
The composition of the ISOLE Consortium has been identified with the aim of maximising specific expertise utilisation and at the optimising of inter process interfaces required to successfully carry out the Project, including:
- Value Added Companies, who will manage the ISOLE applications development; - Scientific Institutions, providing scientific expertise support in pilotapplications;
- Pilot End-Users, for the selected sites of Elba (IT) and Mykonos (GR); - Supportinq Organisation, at ministerial level.
