Enrichment of oxygen in lean gases for the application in block type thermal power units

Objective

One way to make the air-lean gas mixture ignitable in a motive combustion as it occurs unblock type thermal power units is to shift the ratio between oxygen and nitrogen in the air-lean gas mixture. This would drastically broaden the applicability of block type thermal power plants with all their economical and ecological benefits. The enrichment of oxygen with the recently applied technologies is too expensive to allow small and medium sized block type thermal power units to operate economically. The objective of the proposed research project is therefore to enrich oxygen in the sucked motive combustion air with a special pressure swing absorption process which enriches oxygen from 21% in air up to 35% during the absorption step of the process. This quantity of O2 ensures a stable ignitability of lean gases. The combustion process has to be adjusted to the new combustion mixture with the oxygen enriched air to ensure high efficiencies and low emissions.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
