Objective
A telematic language training centre is one which combines direct teaching, self-study learning, customised learnware delivery and remote tutoring in a unified tele-pedagogic approach. This means that tutors are able to customise multimedia self-study materials for a broad range of needs and learners are able to work independently with these materials. The learners and tutors interact and share information with each other via a 'tutoring board' or PC-based video-conferencing. The TELOS telematic service will integrate a system for pedagogic communication and learnware delivery, a management interface for tele-learning and tutoring, tools for multimedia authoring and customisation, and multimedia packages for self-study learning. Eight educational and industrial language training centres in five countries will take part in 14 courses. One of the outcomes of the project will be guidelines on "Best Practice in Multimedia Telematic Language Learning & Tutoring".
