Objective
THE PREDICTIBILITY OF ANY MODEL OF GENERAL ATMOSPHERIC CIRCULATION CAN BE ASSESSED THROUGH ITS CAPACITY OF SIMULATING WELL-KNOWN CLIMATIC SITUATIONS WIDELY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PREVAILING TO-DAY. IT IS PROPOSED TO COLLECT PRECISE POLLENANALYTICAL QUANTITATIVE DATA CONCERNING THE LAST INTERGLACIAL OPTIMUM (AROUND 120.000 B.P.) IN TWO EUROPEAN SITES AND TO APPLY TO THESE DATA THE TYPE OF TRANSFER FUNCTIONS WHICH HAVE BEEN WORKED OUT IN A RESEARCH, NOW IN PROCESS OF ACHIEVEMENT, CONCERNING THE LAST GLACIAL PERIOD MADE CONJOINTLY WITH THE LABORATOIRE DE PALYNOLOGIE DE L'UNIVERSITE DES SCIENCES ET TECHNIQUES DU LANGUEDOC (MONTPELLIER) AND THE LABORATOIRE DE STATISTIQUES DE L'UNIVERSITE PARIS VI.
THE FINAL AIM SHOULD BE TO PROVIDE CONTINENTAL CLIMATIC PARAMETERS ENABLING ALL THE CLIMATE MODELLERS TO TEST THEIR PRODUCTS WITH REGARD TO CLIMATIC SITUATIONS UNAFFECTED BY MAN'S ACTION, WELL CONTRASTING WITH EACH OTHER AND DIFFERENT FROM THE PRESENT CLIMATE.
