Objective DEVELOPMENT OF ECOTOXICOLOGICAL TEST METHODS FOR THE FRESHWATER ENVIRONMENT. THE FOLLOWING RESEARCH WILL BE INVESTIGATED IN THIS PROJECT: - DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURING AND TOXICITY TESTING TECHNIQUES FOR A RANGE OF FRESHWATER MACROINVERTEBRATES OF THE CLASSES OF HYDROZOA, TURBELLARIA, GASTROPODA, OLIGOCHAETA, CRUSTACEA AND INSECTA. THESE WILL INCLUDE METHODS FOR BOTH LONG-THERM AND SHORT-TERM TOXICANT EXPOSURE. - IDENTIFICATION OF THE MOST SENSITIVE LIFE-HISTORY STAGES OF THESE MACROINVERTEBRATE SPECIES; - OF THE SPECIES TESTED, THOSE MOST SENSITIVE TO PARTICULAR TYPES OF POLLUTION WILL BE IDENTIFIED; - QUANTIFICATION OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN TEST RESULTS FROM DIFFERENT SPECIES AND DIFFERENT LIFE-STAGES OF THE SAME SPECIES.
