ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF FAST FIRING TECHNOLOGY OF CERAMICS

Objective

PREVENTION OF FLUORINE POLLUTION FROM CERAMICS INDUSTRY USING CLEAN TECHNOLOGIES.

THE RESEARCH WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING PHASES:

A) SAMPLING

A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF KILNS FOR FAST FIRING OF CERAMIC TILES, AS A FUNCTION OF PRODUCT TYPE (PARTICULARLY POROSITY) AND OF STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTIC OF KILNS. FOR EACH SELECTED KILN THE FOLLOWING DATA WILL BE COLLECTED: LENGHT, WIDTH OF THE LOADING SECTION, LENGHT OF THERMAL CYCLE, FIRING TEMPERATURE, PRODUCTION CAPACITY, ENERGY CONSUMPTION.

B) EMISSION SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS

IN EACH SELECTED KILN THE FOLLOWING MEASUREMENTS, AT LEAST TWICE IN DIFFERENT TIMES, WILL BE MADE:

- IN STACK GASES: TEMPERATURE, FLOW RATE, FLUORINE CONCENTRATION;

- IN CRUDE AND FIRED PRODUCT: FLUORINE CONCENTRATION.

C) ELABORATION OF RESULTS OBTAINED

- CALCULATION OF FLUORINE EMISSION FACTORS;

- DEFINITION OF EXISTING CORRELATION BETWEEN EMISSION FACTORS, AND, RESPECTIVELY:FLUORINE CONTENT IN CRUDE WARE, FIRING TEMPERATURE, FIRING VELOCITY, KILN TYPE, PRODUCT TYPE, PRODUCTION CAPACITY.

D) PROJECTION OF THE RESULTS, IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE INFLUENCE OF ADOPTION OF FAST FIRING TECHNOLOGY TILE PRODUCTION

- COMPARISON OF FAST FIRING EMISSION OF DIFFERENT PRODUCTS, WITH RESPECTIVE ONES FOR TRADITIONAL FIRING;

- CALCULATION OF THE REDUCTION OF FLUORINE TOTAL EMISSION, WHICH FOLLOWS THE INTRODUCTION OF FAST FIRING FOR TRADITIONAL KILNS, IN COMPARISON WITH THE REDUCTION ACHIEVABLE BY POLLUTION CONTROL.
