Objective
COLLECTION OF RECOVERIES OF BIRDS RINGED IN EUROPE IN A DATA BANK, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON MIGRATING BIRDS.
THE AIM IS TO COLLECT THE ABOUT ONE MILLION RECOVERIES OF BIRDS RINGED IN EUROPE INTO THE CENTRAL DATA BANK OF THE EUROPEAN UNION FOR BIRD RINGING, IN ORDER TO HAVE THESE DATA READY FOR RESEARCH ON CONSERVATION OF BIRD POPULATIONS, ESPECIALLY OF MIGRANT BIRDS, SUCH IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EC-DIRECTIVE ON THE CONSERVATION OF WILD BIRDS. FROM THE ABOUT 785.000 RECOVERIES OF BIRDS RINGED IN EC COUNTRIES 300.000 ARE ALREADY AVAILABLE.
THE PRESENT PROPOSAL AIMS AT ENTERING THE REMAINING NUMBER OF 485.000 RECOVERIES. THIS INVOLVES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE INSTITUTES (E.G. GEOGRAPHICAL COORDINATES), TO CONTROL, TO PUNCH OR TAPE THESE MAINLY OLDER DATA ACCORDING TO AN INTERNATIONALLY AGREED COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE PILOT STUDIES USING THESE DATA WILL BE COMPLETED
