Objective
TO IMPROVE THE METHODS FOR TESTING THE ACTION OF ANTISEPTIC SUBSTANCES ON VIRUSES IN VIEW OF THEIR STANDARDISATION.
THE DEFINITION OF "VIRUCIDAL ACTIVITY TESTS" (V.A.T.) IMPLIES A BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF:
- THE PATTERNS OF ACTIVITY OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL AGENTS ON VIRUSES,
- THE INTERACTION OF THE DIFFERENT AGENTS AND SUBSTANCES PRESENT IN THE VIRAL SUSPENSIONS AND THE INFLUENCE OF THE DEGREE OF AGGREGATION OF THE VIRUS.
THE RESEARCH WORK TO BE DONE ON A MODEL, E. COLI-PHAGE, WILL CONSIST IN:
- THE OBSERVATION OF VIRAL AGGREGATION UNDER THE ELECTRON MICROSCOPE IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MATHEMATICAL LAWS AND THE OBSERVED CLUSTER DISTRIBUTION OF THE VIRUS,
- THE DEMOSTRATION OF GROUP SYNERGISM OR REACTIVATION AND THE EVALUATIONS OF ITS EFFECTS ON TITRATION IN DENATURATION ASSAYS,
THE CHOICE OF A PURIFICATION METHOD FOR THE VIRUS AND THEN THE STUDY OF THE DENATURATION OF PURIFIED VIRAL SUSPENSIONS BY ANTISEPTIC SUBSTANCES,
- THE COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF ANTISEPTIC DENATURATION ON BACTERIA AND HUMAN OR ANIMAL VIRUSES.
