THE EFFECT OF LIGHT, TEMPERATURE AND WATER SUPPLY ON THE RESPONSES OF PLANTS TO AIR POLLUTION.

Objective

TO DETERMINE THE WAY IN WHICH THE THREE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS (LIGHT, TEMPERATURE, WATER SUPPLY) AFFECT THE RESPONSES OF PLANTS TO SO2, NOX AND BOTH.

A NUMBER OF PLANTS SPECIES, LIKE TOMATOES, BEANS AND YOUNG TREES, WILL BE GROWN IN CONTROLLED CONDITIONS AND EXPOSED TO POLLUTANTS LIKE SO2, NOX AND MIXTURE OF BOTH.

THE DURATION AND LEVELS OF ILLUMINATION, THE TEMPERATURE CYCLE AND VALUE, AS WELL AS THE WATER SUPPLY WILL BE MODIFIED TO SEE THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE PLANTS RESPONSES AND TO COUNTERBALANCE THE EFFECTS OF POLLUTANTS.

ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE POLLUTION SENSITIVITY OF DIFFERENT CULTIVARS OF THE PLANTS TO TRY TO FIND SOME WHICH COULD BE RECOMMENDED FOR AGRICULTURAL USE IN POLLUTED AREAS.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

This project has not yet been classified with EuroSciVoc.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
