Objective
TO STUDY THE MOVEMENT OF POLLUTANTS AND THE RELATIONS BETWEEN ALTERATION FACTORS ON A BENTHIC LITTORAL ECOSYSTEMS.
IN THE GULF OF FOS AND THE "ETANG DE BERRE" - FOR SPECIAL INTERESTS EXTENDED ON LOWER POLLUTED PARTS OF THE GULF OF MARSEILLE - SANDY AND MUDDY LITTORAL ECOSYSTEMS, POSIDONIA MATS AND CORALLIGENE ECOSYSTEMS WILL BE STUDIED.
THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME IS DIVIDED IN TWO PARTS:
1. STUDY OF THE MOVEMENT OF POLLUTANTS:
- SEDIMENTATION OF PARTICLES FROM THE WATER;
- EXCHANGES BETWEEN THE SYSTEM WATER-SEDIMENTS-ORGANISMS.
2. STUDY OF THE RELATIONS BETWEEN ALTERATION FACTORS (BY POLLUTION AND HUMAN ACTIVITY) AND SOME BENTHIC LITTORAL ECOSYSTEMS. THIS RESEARCH COMPRISES LIKEWISE A DESCRIPTION OF THE STATE OF THE DIFFERENT LINKS OF THE ECOSYSTEM AND EXPERIMENTAL WORK IN THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT (IN SITU) AND IN THE LABORATORY FOR PRECISION OF CERTAIN TOXIC SUBSTANCES.
IN THE CHEMICAL PART OF THE STUDY THE FORM OF MINERAL AND ORGANIC POLLUTION WILL BE IDENTIFIED, WHICH COMPRISES IN PARTICULAR
- THE REPARTITION OF POLLUTANTS IN THE WATER AND THE PARTICULATE MATTER;
- THEIR DISTRIBUTION OF CERTAIN POLLUTANTS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF CHOSEN ORGANISMS INCLUDING THEIR INTESTINAL CONTENT;
- THEIR DISTRIBUTION BETWEEN INTERSTITIAL WATER AND THE SOLID PARTS OF THE SEDIMENTS.
BASED ON THE SPATIOTEMPORAL INVENTARISATION OF THE ORGANISMS IN A DEFINED VOLUME OR ON A SURFACE AREA AN ASSESSMENT ON THE EVOLUTION OF THE SETTLEMENT OR WITHIN FENCED PLOTS WILL BE DONE. THE FAUNE OF SOME OF THESE EXPERIMENTAL SITES WILL BE KILLED TOTALLY BY X-RAY AND THE WATER AND SEDIMENTS WILL BE PRETREATED WITH POLLUTANTS OR PROTECTED FROM THEM. SYNERGISTIC AND ANTAGONISTIC EFFECTS DURING THE SETTLEMENT OF THESE SYSTEMS WILL BE STUDIED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
