Objective
DEVELOPMENT OF QUANTITATIVE METHODS FOR THE MATHEMATICAL DESCRIPTION OF POPULATION AND ECOSYSTEM DYNAMICS.
THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME WILL DEVELOP AND APPLY MODERN QUANTITATIVE METHODS TO THE STUDY OF A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS CONNECTED WITH THE DYNAMICS OF POPULATIONS AND ECOSYSTEMS.
THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS WILL BE TACKLED:
1) EVOLUTION MODELS WHICH EXPLICITELY TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ECOLOGICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSTAINTS, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE GENUS HYDRA;
2) A CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF THE K-SELECTION THEORY WITH REFERENCE TO TRENDS IN THE POPULATIONS OF PREDATORS;
3) ESTIMATION OF VITAL POPULATION PARAMETERS WITH REGARD TO SEVERAL AGE CATEGORIES AND POPULATION DENSITIES ON THE BASIS OF MASS CULTURES AND MORTALITY TABLES. FIELD DATA GAINED FROM PHILODINA ROSEOLA POPULATIONS WILL BE USED FOR THE CALCULATIONS.
4) DETERMINING THE BEST WAYS OF EXPLOITING A PRODUCTIVE ECOSYSTEM, NAMELY USING FIELD DATA ON EELS IN THE VALLI DI COMACCHIO;
5) STUDY ON ENERGY PRINCIPLES FOR COMPETING SPECIES.
Programme(s)

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
