INVESTIGATION OF THE ADSORPTION PROPERTIES AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISATION OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF ASBESTOS.
FOR THE CHARACTERISATION OF THE ASBESTOS SURFACES STRUCTURALLY AND CHEMICALLY, QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE SURVEY ANALYSIS OF THE SURFACE ARE CARRIED OUT USING DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES LIKE SIMS, LAMMA, EMPA AND MOESSBAUER SPECTROMETRY. SIMS ALLOWS THE DETECTION OF SURFACE IMPURITIES ON THE ASBESTOS FIBRES.
FOR MORE STRUCTURAL INFORMATION OF THE ASBESTOS SURFACE, LASER MICROPHOBE MASS ANALYSIS (LAMMA) IS USED. BOTH METHODS ARE COMBINED WITH MICROPROBE ANALYSIS (EMPA) TECHNIQUE IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A DETAILED CHEMICAL SURFACE COMPOSITION OF THE ASBESTOS FIBRES.
FURTHERMORE THE AFFINITY AND REACTIVITY OF THE SURFACE TOWARDS ORGANIC AND INORGANIC POLLUTANTS ARE STUDIED.
