THE RELATION BETWEEN THE CARBON AND NITROGEN BIOGEOCHEMICAL CYCLE IN ANTHROPOGENIC ECOSYSTEMS AND ITS IMPORTANCE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Objective

STUDY OF THE NITROGEN AND CARBON CYCLES.

INTEGRATION OF KNOWLEDGE BY MODEL DEVELOPMENT

THERE EXIST NUMEROUS DATA SETS AND CONCEPTS ON THE PROCESSES WHICH TOGETHER DESCRIBE THE ROLE OF CARBON AND NITROGEN IN THE BIOCHEMICAL CYCLE (E.G. BUILD UP, SOIL ORGANIC COMPOUNDS, NITRIFICATION, DENITRIFICATION, LOSSES TO ENVIRONMENT BY VOLATILISATION, LEACHING, REMOVAL OF CROP). THE ONLY WAY TO INTEGRATE THIS KNOWLEDGE IS BY MODEL DEVELOPMENT. THE CONSTRUCTION OF HIERARCHIC MODELS IS FORESEEN, EXPERIMENTS ARE, HOWEVER, ORIENTED ON A SUBMODEL FOR SOIL MICROBIOLOGICALLY MEDIATED BUILD UP AND DECOMPOSITION OF SOIL ORGANIC COMPOUNDS.

THE EXPERIMENTS INCLUDE:

DETERMINATION OF MICROBIOLOGICAL SOIL BIOMASS. DETERMINATION OF THE ACTIVITY OF ROOTS AS A CARBON SOURCE FOR SOIL MICROORGANISMS. (USE OF PHYTOTRON AND 14CO2). DETERMINATION OF ROOT EXUDATES AS CARBON SOURCE FOR MICROORGANISMS. DETERMINATION OF PROTONFLUX FROM PLANT ROOTS, INDUCED CHANGES OF RHIZOPHERE. DENITRIFICATION (ACETYLENE INHIBITION AND 14N).

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
