EVALUATION OF TEST-PROTOCOLS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMICALS

Objective

ESTABLISHMENT OF A METHODOLOGY FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF TOXIC AND ECOTOXIC EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMICALS FOR REGULATORY PURPOSES (EC-DIRECTIVES).

A NUMBER OF PROTOCOLS FOR ECOTOXICOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF CHEMICALS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE TEST SCHEMES OF THE EC-DIRECTIVE ON DANGEROUS COMPOUNDS REQUIRE FURTHER REFINEMENT. FOR THIS PURPOSE, 15 CHEMICALS ARE TESTED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING PROTOCOLS

- BIOACCUMULATION, SEMI-STATIC FISH-TEST
- DAPHNIA ACUTE IMMOBILISATION AND 14 DAY REPRODUCTION TEST
- ADSORPTION/DESORPTION
- ALGAE, GROWTH INHIBITION-TEST
- BIOTIC DEGRADATION, MODIFIED MITI TEST II
- PHYTOTOXICITY: GERMINATION INHIBITION TEST/GROWTH TEST
- EARTHWORM TEST

IN PARTICULAR, THE REPRODUCIBILITY OF THE TESTS AND THEIR DIRECTION LIMITS WILL BE ASSESSED, AND THEIR ROLE IN AN OVERALL ASSESSMENT WILL BE DEFINED.

THE PROJECT IS COMPLEMENTARY TO RESEARCH UNDER CONTRACT ENV-571-D.
