Objective
ASSESSMENT OF THE FATE AND EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION ON TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEM.
THE PROJECT IS CENTRED, BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY, ON AIR POLLUTION BY AN ALUMINIUM REDUCTION PLANT ON THE ISLE OF ANGLESEY IN WALES. IT CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING PARTS:
1) CONTINUATION OF MONITORING (PHYSICO-CHEMICALLY AND BIOLOGICALLY USING TRANSPLANTED AND NATURALLY OCCURRING LICHENS) ATMOSPHERIC LOADS OF FLUORIDES AT DIFFERENT DISTANCES FROM THE MAJOR POINT SOURCE;
2) INVESTIGATION ON THE OCCURRENCE OF OTHER POLLUTANTS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SO2 AND O3;
3) MEASUREMENTS ON THE DEPOSITION OF FLUORIDES ON, AND RETENTION BY, LIVING AND DEAD FOLIAGE;
4) FUMIGATION CHAMBER EXPERIMENTS TO SEPARATE THE EFFECTS OF ATMOSPHERIC FLUORIDES AND SOIL ACCUMULATIONS ON THE GROWTH OF GRASS;
5) FIELD MEASUREMENTS TO FOLLOW THE TRANSFERS OF FLUORIDES FROM FOLIAGE TO HERBIVORES 'EARTHWORMS AND VOLES) AND TO THEIR PREDATORS (MAGPIES AND FOXES);
6) INVESTIGATION ON THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF FLUORIDES ON THE BEHAVIOUR AND SURVIVAL OF HERBIVORES AND THEIR PREDATORS;
7) CONSTRUCTION OF A MODEL SHOWING THE INTER-RELATED FLOWS OF FLUORIDES.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
