Objective
PRELIMINARY REMOVAL OF HEAVY METALS FROM INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENTS FOR PREVENTING POLLUTION OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.
AT FIRST A BIBLIOGRAPHY SURVEY WILL BE MADE ON ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR THE REMOVAL OF HEAVY METALS, THEIR LIMITS AND THE DIFFICULTIES OF THEIR PRACTICAL APPLICATION.
THEN THE POSSIBILITIES TO IMPROVE EXISTING METHODS OF NEUTRALISATION PRECIPITATION WILL BE STUDIED BY:
- INCREASING THE STABILITY BY STRENGTHENING THE BUFFERING CAPACITY, USING SODIUM CARBONATE COMBINED WITH SODIUM HYDROXIDE
- PRECIPITATING HEAVY METALS AS SULPHIDES
- FIXING THE RESIDUAL TRACES OF HEAVY METALS ON ACTIVATED CARBON WITH AN APPROPRIATE SURFACE EFFECT.
ORIGINAL SOLUTIONS USING WATER SOLUBLE CHEMICALS WITH A LARGE AFFINITY FOR HEAVY METALS (XANTHATES, TANIC ACIDS, THIOLS AND POLYTHIOLS, POLYCARBOXYLIC ACIDS, VARIOUS POLYELECTROLYTES) WILL BE TESTED. AFTER PRECIPITATION OF THE METALS, THE CHEMICALS WILL BE SEPARATED BY ADSORPTION ON ACTIVATED CARBON OR CO-PRECIPITATION.
THE POSSIBILITIES OF CO-PRECIPITATION OF THE HEAVY METALS WITH IRON, ALUMINIUM HYDROXIDES OR SILICATES WILL BE STUDIED.
FOR ALL THE PROCESSES, THE INFLUENCE OF OPERATING CONDITIONS ON THE SEPARATION YIELD, THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS AND THE BASIS OF DIMENSIONING WILL BE DEFINED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
