Objective
DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW METHOD FOR TREATING WASTE WATER WITH HIGH CONCENTRATION AND LOW BIODEGRADABILITY.
THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO VERIFY THE RESULTS WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED IN AN EQUIVALENT MONOSTAGE REACTOR. IN PARTICULAR, THROUGH APPROPRIATE ARRANGEMENTS OF THE FOOD/MICRO-ORGANISM RATIOS.
THE RESEARCH IS DIVIDED UP INTO A FIRST PHASE INVOLVING SETTING UP AT LABORATORY SCALE THE "STEP BIOMASS RECIRCULATION" MULTISTAGE REACTOR (3 STAGES) FED WITH SYNTHETICALLY PREPARED SUBSTRATA OF CONSTANT COMPOSITION AND CONCENTRATION: A MONOSTAGE REACTOR WILL BE FED IN PARALLEL, IDENTICAL IN VOLUME, WITH RECIRCULATION OF THE BIOMASS AT THE HEAD. BESIDES THE YIELDS OF THE INDIVIDUAL STAGES, THE BIOMASS WILL ALSO BE CHARACTERISED DURING THE INDIVIDUAL STAGES.
FOR THE SIMULATION OF THE BIOCHEMICAL SYSTEM ASPECT, IT IS ENVISAGED SETTING UP A MATHEMATICAL MODEL WHICH WILL SERVE BOTH AS A BACK-UP TO THE EXPERIMENTS AND AS AN INDICATOR OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE SYSTEM ITSELF IN RELATION TO THE DIFFERENT STRUCTURAL CONFIGURATIONS, ALSO AT DIFFERENT FEEDING TIMES. IT IS CONSIDERED THAT THIS SYSTEM COULD BE USED FOR TREATING CONCENTRATED SUBSTRATA WITH A LOW DEGREE OF BIODEGRADABILITY.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
