Objective
TO DEVELOP CROSS-BOUNDER TECHNIQUES FOR EARTHQUAKES DATA TRANSMISSION.
1. THE 8 PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES WILL BE EQUIPED WITH A CAPABILITY OF TRANSMITTING PAPER SEISMOGRAMS BY TELEFAX AND OF MAINTAINING A COMPUTER BULLETIN BOARD OR MAILBOX FROM WHICH INTERESTED GROUPS CAN COLLECT PARAMETERS ON SIGNIFICANT EARTHQUAKES.
2. EACH OF THE 5 COUNTRIES HAVING A BORDER WITH BELGIUM WILL EXCHANGE SEISMIC WAVEFORM DATA, IN REAL-TIME, WITH BELGIUM AND WITH ONE OTHER IMMEDIATE NEIGHBOUR.THIS WILL REQUIRE THE ENHANCEMENT OF EXISTING SEISMOGRAPH SYSTEMS, THE INSTALLATION OF NEW ONES AND THE SOLUTION TO THE TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROBLEMS. THE AIM WILL BE TO EXPLORE DIFFERENT METHODS OF TRANSMISSION (RADIO, TELEPHONES, PACKET-SWITCHING AND, IF POSSIBLE, SATELLITE) TO PERMIT COMPARISONS AND TO TRANSFER TECHNOLOGY BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE LIMITED EXPERTISE IN SOME METHODS.
3. ALL THE WAVEFORM DATA TRANSMITTED TO BELGIUM WILL BE COMPILED FOR USE IN A STANDARD FORMAT AND MADE GENERALLY AVAILABLE FOR STUDIES OF THE REGION AND THE READINGS FROM ALL APPROPRIATE STATIONS WILL BE EXCHANGED BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS.
