Objective
THE RESEARCH DEALS WITH RECONSTRUCTING, WITH DETAILED FIGURES, THE LAST CLIMATIC CYCLE IN EUROPE, SPECIFYING THE PERIODS COVERED SUCH AS THE LAST GLACIAL MAXIMUM AND CLIMATIC TURNING POINTS SUCH AS THE END OF THE LAST INTERGLACIAL OR THE EMERGENCE FROM THE LAST GLACIAL.
IN THE CONTEXT OF THE PRESENT STATE OF RESEARCH IN THIS FIELD, THE PROJECT WILL SEEK TO EXTEND THE RESULTS OBTAINABLE WITH THE CURRENT TRANSFER FUNCTIONS BOTH IN TIME - TO COVER THE WHOLE OF THE LAST CLIMATIC CYCLE OF ABOUT 120 000 YEARS - AND IN SPACE - TO COVER THE WHOLE OF EUROPE - BY IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FUNCTION.
THE RESEARCH WILL CONSIST OF SEVEN STEPS :
1. IDENTIFYING THE LOCATIONS IN EUROPE WITH POLLEN SEQUENCES RELEVANT TO THE RESEARCH.
2. ACQUIRING TRADITIONAL POLLEN-ANALYSIS DATA.
3. ANALYSIS OF MARINE POLLEN DATA.
4. ANALYSIS OF ANNUAL POLLEN-DEPOSITION SEQUENCES.
5. IDENTIFYING THE ECOLOGICAL FACTORS AFFECTING POLLEN DISTRIBUTION.
6. IMPROVING THE PRESENT TRANSPOSITION FUNCTION.
7. IMPLEMENTING THE TRANSFER FUNCTIONS.
