TWO-DIMENSIONAL MODEL OF THE CLIMATE SYSTEM

Objective

TO BUILD A 2-D CLIMATE MODEL.

THIS PROPOSAL IS PART OF A JOINT PROGRAMME BETWEEN 6 LABORATORIES WHICH AIMS TO BUILD A TWO-DIMENSIONAL (ALTITUDE/LATITUDE) CLIMATE MODEL WHERE ATMOSPHERE, OCEAN, SEA AND LAND ICE ARE COUPLED AND WHERE A CARBON DIOXIDE CYCLE IS INCLUDED.

THE SPECIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PROPOSER WILL BE :

- ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE TO UCL ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 2-D OCEAN MODEL AND ITS COUPLING TO THE ATMOSPHERIC MODEL AND SEA ICE MODEL;
- INVESTIGATION OF TECHNIQUES FOR ECONOMICALLY PERFORMING LONG INTEGRATIONS OF COUPLED MODELS;
- CONTRIBUTION TO ANALYSIS OF RESULTS FROM THE 2-D COUPLED MODEL INTEGRATIONS;
- COMPARISON OF SIMULATIONS OBTAINED FROM THE 2-D COUPLED MODEL WITH THOSE FROM A MORE COMPREHENSIVE 3-D MODEL;
- ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE TO UCL AND BERN ON THE INCLUSION OF A MODEL OF THE CARBON CYCLE INTO THE OCEAN MODEL.
