RESEARCH ON CONTINUOUS AND INSTANTANEOUS HEAVY GAS CLOUDS

Objective

TO PROVIDE IMPROVED METHODS WHETHER NUMERICAL OR PHYSICAL TO PREDICT THE BEHAVIOUR OF HEAVY GAS CLOUDS.

IN THIS PROJECT, EMPHASIS WILL BE GIVEN TO :
1. VARIABILITY AND FLUCTUATIONS OF CONCENTRATION INSIDE THE HEAVY-GAS CLOUD.
2. THE EFFECT OF OBSTACLES, MAN-MADE STRUCTURES AND TOPOGRAPHY, ON THE DISPERSION PROCESS.
THE RESULTS OF THE RESEARCH ON THESE TOPICS WILL, IF FEASIBLE, BE INCORPORATED IN EXISTING METHODS TO PREDICT THE DISPERSION OF HEAVY GASES.
THE WORKERS AT BRUNEL WILL COLLABORATE WITH THE OTHER PARTNERS, AND PARTICULARLY HSE, IN UDERTAKING DATA ANALYSIS OF THE REPLICATED WIND-TUNNEL TESTS.
THEY WILL ALSO PROVIDE ADVICE ON THE DESIGN OF THE EXPERIMENTS, AND WILL BE FULLY INVOLVED IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SIMPLE MODELS WHICH SPECIFICALLY INCORPORATE VARIABILITY, THIS BEING ONE MAIN AIM OF THE OVERALL PROGRAMME.
