Objective
TO DEVELOP A SERIES OF RELIABLE METHODS, WHETHER BASED ON NUMERICAL MODELLING OR ON PHYSICAL MODELLING, TO PREDICT THE EFFECTS OF LARGE FLAMES OR FIRES ON THE ENVIRONMENT, WITH EMPHASIS ON RADIATION AND HEAT TRANSFER.
ARS' SPECIFIC TASK WITHIN THE PROJECT WILL BE TO DEVELOP PROCEDURES ACCORDING TO WHICH RELIABLE NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF TORCH FIRES CAN BE CARRIED OUT. DURING THE FIRST STAGE OF THE PROJECT NUMERICAL MODELS THAT DESCRIBE TORCH FIRES WILL BE SELECTED, MODIFIED OR EVENTUALLY DEVELOPED.DEVELOPMENTS WILL BE CARRIED WITH THE U P MADRID, WHO DELIVER FUNDAMENTAL AND THEORETICAL INFORMATIONS.ASSISTANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SELECTION OF THE SITUATIONS TO BE STUDIED WITHIN THE PROJECT, AND CALCULATIONS WITH THE NUMERICAL MODEL FOR IDEALIZED SITUATIONS WITHOUT OBSTACLES WILL BE PERFORMED.AT THE END OF THE FIRST STAGE DATA OBTAINED FROM CALCULATIONS WILL BE EVALUATED AGAINST FIELD DATA AND DATA FROM WIND-TUNNEL TESTS.
DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF THE PROJECT, DEPENDING ON THE RESULTS FROM THE FIRST STAGE, THE NUMERICAL MODEL WILL BE ADJUSTED. AFTERWARDS MORE COMPLEX SITUATIONS WITH SIMPLE OBSTACLES WILL BE STUDIED.
A FINAL REPORT ON THE ARS ACTIVITIES WILL BE PRODUCED.FURTHER ARS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEXT OF AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ON THE TOTAL JOINT PROJECT BASED ON THE REPORTS OF THE OTHER PARTNERS.ALSO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE NUMERICAL MODELLING OF FIRES WILL BE GENERATED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
