Objective
TO INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY OF ALGAL PONDS USED FOR WASTE WATERS TREATMENT.
IN MEDITERRANEAN REGIONS, WHERE THE SUN IRRADIATION IS IMPORTANT, ALGAL PONDS ARE USED FOR DEPOLLUTING WASTE WATERS THROUGH NATURAL BIOLOGICAL DIGESTION.
THIS JOINT PROJECT WILL AIM AT INCREASING THE EFFICIENCY OF THESE PROCESSES LOOKING AT THE INFLUENCE OF A NUMBER OF PARAMETERS SUCH AS PH, TEMPERATURE, REDOX POTENTIAL, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, BACTERIAL STRAINS, ALGAE TYPES.
DIGESTION CELLS WILL BE BUILT IN LAGOONS AND THE DEPOLLUTION EFFICIENCY MEASURED BY THE CONCENTRATIONS OF DIFFERENT CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL VARIABLES AS A FUNCTION OF THE PARAMETERS VALUES.
THE GROWTH, COLLECTION AND TRANSFORMATION OF ALGAE AS A PROTEIN SOURCE FOR ANIMAL FEEDING WILL ALSO BE INVESTIGATED.
