Objectif TO ASSESS THE IMPACT ON FOREST TREES AND AGRICULTURAL CROPS OF THE AMBIENT AIR POLLUTION. CLONED MATERIAL OF NORWAY SPRUCE, PICAE ABIES, SHALL BE EXPOSED TO FILTERED AND NON-FILTERED AIR IN LARGE OPEN-TOP CHAMBERS 2987-90. WHEAT, TRITICUM AESTIVUM, AND PEA, PISUM SATIVUM, SHALL BE GROWN IN SMALL OPEN-TOP CHAMBERS 1987-90. THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL EXPERIMENTS SHALL BE PERFORMED : 1) TWO RAMETES OF NORWAY SPRUCE, ORIGINATING FROM EAST AND WEST EUROPE, RESPECTIVELY, SHALL BE TESTED FOR INFLUENCE OF SOIL TYPE ON SENSITIVITY TO AIR POLLUTION. SLIGHTLY ELEVATED CONCENTRATIONS OF O3 DURING SUMMER SO2 AND/OR NO2 DURING WINTER WILL BE MAINTAINED IN SOME CHAMBERS. 2) IN ADDITION TO FILTERED/NON-FILTERED TREATMENTS OF THE CROP SPECIES, A THIRD SET OF CHAMBERS WILL BE ADDED OZONE TO PRODUCE A 3-LEVEL OZONE GRADIENT.
