WATERSHED RESPONSES IN MEDITERRANEAN ECOSYSTEMS.

Objective

NATURAL PHENOMENA LIKE RAINSTORMS CAN BE CONSIDERED AS DISTURBANCES WITH INFLUENCE IN THE WATER, NUTRIENT AND SEDIMENT EXPORT FROM THE ECOSYSTEMS. THE PROPORTION OF THESE LOSSES IN MEDITERRANEAN ECOSYSTEMS, WITH IRREGULAR AND SOMETIMES VERY INTENSE RAINFALLS, IS LITTLE KNOWN AND PARTICULARLY INTERESTING WHEREVER THEY ARE WATER AND NUTRIENT-LIMITED.

EXPERIMENTAL DISTURBANCES AT THE CATCHMENT LEVEL ARE RARELY REPORTED IN MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATES. THE COMBINATION OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ANALYSIS IN THESE DISTURBED ECOSYSTEMS, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS IN RAINSTORM EFFECTS, CONSTITUTE A NEW APPROACH.

IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE RESEARCH EFFORT WILL HAVE IMPORTANT BENEFITS BOTH IN FORMALISING THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE ROLE OF WATER FLUXES IN NUTRIENT CYCLING, AND ALSO IN PREDICTING THE EFFECTS OF MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES ON NUTRIENT CYCLING.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
