Objetivo
To determine a set of generalised rules for isolating and dealing with well-performing biodegraders, that can be applied by environmental engineers and researchers.
Starting off from the observation that in bioremediation only few of the isolated microorganisms perform well when utilised under field conditions, and most organisms perform poorly, although in the laboratory they appeared to be promising, this research project is designed to identify the reasons for this discrepancy. The aim of this proposed work is to determine the ecological rules for successfully isolating, maintaining and applying microorganisms for bioremediation of chemical spills. As a model will be used the biodegradation of polychlorinated phenols and related compounds (such as pentachlorophenol, (PCP).
