Resultado final

The FIMEX project has proved that the developed explosive hose prototype fulfils the user requirements in terms of preparation time and fire extinguishing efficiency. The number of fire fighting crew members involved in the preparation of the hose system on site has been minimised. The field tests campaigns and the demonstration with controlled burnings have shown that the explosive hose system is especially suitable for fighting high intensity fires, under extreme conditions and in isolated areas. This makes the system very attractive for south European countries in the Mediterranean area. The extinguishing efficiency could even been improved with the use of a retardant solution instead of pure water to fill the hose.
The software "2RS-System Information System" provides the user with a simulation of fire propagation with and without the explosive hose system. It supports the user in finding the appropriate hose configuration with respect to the fire parameters (slope, vegetation) and weather conditions (wind speed, humidity) on the site. The target users are operational crews like fire brigades, civil security teams or specialised army corps. The simulation of fire propagation is very fast compared with existing competitive products. This could be achieved through a vector oriented simulation procedure with a resolution of 10 to 100 meters. The software is ready for use; an installation CD-ROM including a user manual and online help is available. Some sample maps with vegetation data according to the PROMETHEUS fuel classification are already implemented. Maps of new areas can easily be implemented. The software will be continuously improved to integrate results of other European research projects concerning fire simulation.
