Fault-rupture and strong-shaking effects on the safety of composite foundations and pipeline systems: quantification and reduction of seismic risk through the application of advanced geotechnical engineering techniques.

Objective

QUAKER will reduce the human and economic cost of earthquakes by quantifying and reducing seismic risk through the application of advanced geotechnical engineering techniques. New understanding of the behaviour of foundations and lifeline systems in strong earthquakes will be obtained using a range of techniques. Field assessment of recent earthquakes, state-of-the-art reduced scale modelling and advanced numerical modelling, coupled with theoretical analysis. New methods of analysis for use in seismic risk assessment and for the design and retrofitting of infrastructure will be developed. Use in practice, and thereby reduction of seismic risk will be achieved by effective dissemination. Specific end-users will participate in steering the project and, together with two SMEs in the partnership, implement its findings first. Findings will be disseminated by book, international workshop and by incorporation into Eurocodes.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
