Objective
The Common Market Organisation for Wine (CMO) established that each EU Member State having more than 500 hectares of vineyard should have reliable information about vineyard areas and ensure its good management. This responsibility is delegated to the Member States, where a number of stakeholders (national and regional organisations, wine producers consortia, local trade chambers , Controlled Origin Denomination Co-operatives) have to manage vineyard areas following criteria of economic development , environment protection and human welfare maintenance. These stakeholders need an updated inventory of vineyard distribution on their territory and technical means to exploit this knowledge. To support their decision-making processes, BACCHUS will develop, test and implement a user-friendly pilot system for inventory (based on airborne and space borne data) and management of vineyard at a European level.
