Objective
The CYCLOPES project will develop and validate biophysical products (albedo. LAI. fAPAR, fCover) from large swath sensors (AVHRR, VEGETATION, POLDER, MERIS , MSG). The products will result from the fusion of concurrent sensor observations when available and will aim at providing long, continuous and consistent time series. Global fields of these variables and the associated uncertainties will be produced over the 1997-2002 period, with a 10 days temporal resolution and a spatial resolution between 1 to 8 kilometres.
The use of these products will then be demonstrated for two main applications in relation to climate change:
- The detection and categorization of land use change detection,
- The estimation of carbon fluxes for the improved description and understanding of the interactions between the vegetation and the atmosphere.
