Recycling chemicals, energy and water from aggressive waste streams with novel modified nanofiltration (nf) membranes (renomem)

Objective

It is proposed to develop novel chemically stable nanofiltration (NF) membranes for treating aggressive industrial wastewater streams which are now difficult or expensive to manage. The new NF membranes will be used to recover alkali, acids, water and energy, with pollution abatement. The products of this proposal will contribute to the competitiveness of European industries and improve environment. The first development stage is alkali/acid and solvent stable ultrafiltration (UF) elements in spiral wound, P&F & HF configurations, comprising stable membranes and chemically stable materials of construction (glues, potting materials, shrouds). These elements will be modified by a novel in site process into chemically stable NF modules, up scaled to a semi-industrial scale and evaluated by end users for recycling of chemicals, energy and water from industrial and waste water streams.
