Objective
The control of bacteria in industrial water systems is essential for their safe and economic operation. Control is also needed to protect public health where water is used in food preparation , surface cleaning or in public buildings. The use of currently available biocides is being questioned on health and environmental grounds. Ozone is accepted as a 'safe' biocide but cannot be readily used in 'small' systems as current methods of production are both expensive to buy and operate. We propose, through co-operative research, to define the operational parameters of a novel patented ozone generation system which will enable it to be used safely and economically in such systems; to develop a prototype and to assess the effectiveness in a range of applications.
