Objective
The actual treatment in the WWTP involves the production in the thickener of a suspension with a low solid content that is filtered producing sledges with more than 60% of humidity. This project is intended to study the concentration of thickened sledges, the teaching of chromium contained in the sledges, the filtration stage in order to produce sludge with no more than 15% of humidity and the recovery of chromium from the leaching solutions. The leaching stage will involve a selective acid leaching of chromium, filtration of the leached suspension in a specially designed diaphragm plate filter press, with cake washing and cake drying. This technology has to be studied in detail in order to achieve the production of sledges with no more than 15% of water. The final destination of these dry sledges (landfill, agriculture, construction materials etc.) and the recovered chromium is going to be studied.
