Objective
The objective of the AQUAWARE-project is to create a user-friendly and cost-efficient method for real-time groundwater and soil monitoring in an aquifer scale for different parts of Europe. The system is targeted for the use of water works, water users, industry and environmental authorities. AQUAWARE offer a sustainable use of water, improve protection of environment, and sharpen the land-use policy. AQUAWARE-project incorporates methods of GIS-based environmental observation, data transmission, data processing and environmental modelling into one tool for environmental management. The system combines the field observations and calculation of movement of water and dissolved compounds. AQUAWARE-project is carried out in three work packages including the study of the hydro geological formations, monitoring and modelling groundwater processes and risk assessments. The system developed will be tested in three pilot sites located in northern central and southern Europe. The duration of the project is three years. The consortium will consist of universities, research institutes and companies from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy and Belgium.
