Objective
The aim is to clean the great amount of the highly polluted waste water that results from the olive oil production. Thus an easy handling solar distillation facility should be developed and combined with constructed wetlands. The sun will heat the sewage and the distillate will run through the constructed wetlands with the effect of a 98% removal of the undesirable organic matter. Operational costs should be reduced by 90 % in comparison to state of the art treatment plants. By using the sun as a renewable energy source the system will run nearly independently from any supply and maintenance, which will lead to high acceptance in the olive oil mill industry.
